Using fully convolutional semantic segmentation techniques on underwater survey images from the Florida Keys for the purpose of mapping and tracking the coral reef.

  • Developed in-lab yeast analysis computer vision software to automatically determine and track yeast health metrics. Directed ground truth data collection process and achieved 97% cell count accuracy and 95% cell health classification accuracy.

PROJECT PORTFOLIO HIGHLIGHTS

Deep Segments

A tool for generating ground truth images for use in deep learning semantic segmentation models. It provides a simple and fast method for researchers by leveraging unsupervised clustering of an oversegmented image.

Scopi

A stereoscopic camera application for Android. With it, users can take two perspective-offset photos that the application will automatically register (align), crop, and stitch side by side to create a stereoscopic photograph.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Deep Learning

Implemented deep neural networks in Python and studied convolutional neural networks in the context of computer vision.

Neuroevolution

Interested in novel applications of genetic algorithms to evolve neural networks. Has experience using and implementing the NEAT algorithm for neuroevolution.

Music

Classically-trained singer who has performed in a variety of productions including with the Port Angeles Light Opera and the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. Completed 33 university-level credits in music.
